On May 1, 1945, as the Red Army advanced on Berlin, a group of Nazi officers performed a ritual using the city's slaughter as a sacrifice. Their goal was to resurrect the Longinus Dreizehn Orden (LDO), also known as the Order of the 13 Lances, a group of supermen whose return would bring about the world's destruction. Decades later, in present-day Suwahara City, high school student Ren Fujii is recovering in the hospital after a violent fight with his best friend, Shirou Yusa. Ren is haunted by Shirou's parting words, "Everyone who remains in this city eventually loses their minds," and by recurring nightmares of a guillotine, murderers, and black-clad knights.
