Set in the Adriatic Sea during the early years of the Great Depression, the story follows Marco Pagot, a World War I ace pilot who has been mysteriously transformed into an anthropomorphic pig. Now known as Porco Rosso, he works as a freelance bounty hunter, protecting those in distress from increasingly frequent aerial pirate raids. He spends his days on a secluded island, occasionally visiting the beautiful songstress Gina, who owns the Hotel Adriano. However, his aerial heroics draw the ire of the sky pirates, who hire a rival pilot named Curtis to challenge him.
