Mai Taniyama, a high school student, enjoys sharing ghost stories with her friends. One day, while at school, they are interrupted by Kazuya Shibuya, a 17-year-old who heads the Shibuya Psychic Research (SPR) company. Kazuya is investigating paranormal activity at an old, supposedly haunted school building on Mai's campus. Mai accidentally causes an incident that injures Kazuya's assistant and breaks his camera. To compensate for the damage and fill in for the incapacitated assistant, Kazuya demands that Mai work part-time for SPR, thus introducing her to the world of ghost hunting.
