Years after the Empire of Zol conquered the neighboring land of Aquafa and merged the two nations, Van, a former soldier turned prisoner of war, is forced to labor in a salt mine run by Zol authorities. One night a pack of wild dogs, carriers of a deadly illness known as Black Wolf Fever, storms the mine. Van and a young girl named Yuna are bitten but survive as the only two people left alive. Finally free, they settle into a quiet life in a small countryside village, hoping for peace. A mysterious disease is again spreading through the region, and the pair become entangled in a conflict larger than either of them.
