Vinland Saga

Synopsis

Set in 11th-century Europe, Vinland Saga follows Thorfinn, son of the formidable warrior Thors. As a boy, Thorfinn listened eagerly to Leif Ericson's stories of a fertile land far to the west, free of war and slavery, a place Leif called Vinland. That childhood is destroyed when his father is killed by Askeladd, the cunning and ruthless leader of a Viking mercenary band. Swearing to avenge Thors in an honorable duel, Thorfinn attaches himself to his enemy's crew and grows up among war-loving Danes who raid settlements and outwit unsuspecting armies. He becomes one of the band's most fearsome fighters, carrying out Askeladd's orders in exchange for the chance to challenge him, yet he keeps losing every bout. Pride in his family and the distant dream of Vinland sustain him through a world ruled by bloodshed.
