Vagabond

Synopsis

In 17th-century Sengoku-era Japan, Shinmen Takezou is a wild and violent young man, shunned by his village. At age seventeen, he runs away with his friend Matahachi Honiden to join the Toyotomi army, seeking glory in the Battle of Sekigahara. However, the Toyotomi suffer a crushing defeat against the Tokugawa clan. Takezou and Matahachi survive, but their paths separate. Takezou becomes a wanted criminal due to his aggressive nature and is eventually captured. An itinerant monk, Takuan Soho, frees him and gives him a new name, Musashi Miyamoto, setting him on a new path.
