Takumi Fujiwara, an 18-year-old high school student, works part-time at a gas station and helps his father's tofu shop by making deliveries to a hotel on Mount Akina every morning. Unbeknownst to his friends, these daily drives in his father's Toyota AE86 Trueno have honed his driving skills to an exceptional level. When the Akagi RedSuns racing team challenges the local Akina SpeedStars, Takumi's hidden talent is revealed, leading him to defeat Keisuke, one of the RedSuns' leaders. This victory establishes Takumi as a rising star in street racing.
