Decades after the Valbanil War, in which people made devastating pacts with demons, the continent is at peace and the use of demon contracts is forbidden. Cecily Campbell, the young head of a noble family of knights, joins the Knight Guard of the Independent Trade City of Housman, determined to protect its people with the sword she inherited from her father. When an unhinged fighter attacks civilians, her blade shatters, and she is saved by Luke Ainsworth, a blacksmith who wields a strange-looking sword. Cecily wants her heirloom repaired, and Luke, who works alongside his assistant Lisa, may be the only one able to do it. Luke forges swords with sacred power capable of defeating demons, and he seems to know a great deal about the forbidden contracts.
