Tanya Degurechaff is a blonde, blue-eyed girl with nearly translucent white skin who flies into battle on the front lines and cuts down enemies without mercy, commanding troops in a childish lisp. Her appearance hides the soul of a cynical, career-driven Japanese salaryman. After he died suddenly at the hands of an employee he had gotten fired, a self-proclaimed God he calls Being X, angered by his lack of faith, reincarnated him as a little girl. Her new home is an alternate world of magical warfare resembling Great War-era Europe, where the Empire is surrounded by hostile neighbors. Being X has warned that another violent death, or a failure to sincerely believe in him, will send her soul to hell. Putting efficiency and personal advancement above everything, Tanya sets out to climb the ranks of the Imperial Army as an aerial mage and win back a safe, comfortable life.
