A hundred and fifty years after the Witch Hunt War ended, people with magical power are dwindling, and military supremacy, which once moved from the sword to sorcery, has moved again to firearms. The Anti-Magic Academy trains Inquisitors, whose job is to track down remaining magical threats and confiscate dangerous magic rather than kill its users. Takeru Kusanagi is a peerless swordsman, but he has no talent with guns, which makes his chosen weapon outdated. As a result, he captains the 35th Test Platoon, mocked as the "Small Fry Platoon" because it is ranked low and filled with misfits who cannot cooperate. That changes when Ouka Ootori joins them. She is an elite pistol master and former Inquisitor already qualified for witch hunts, but she has been demoted for breaking the rules. She also harbors an intense hatred of witches.
