Yuta Hibiki, a first-year high school student, awakens in his classmate Rikka Takarada's room with no memories. He soon discovers he can perceive things others cannot, including a mysterious voice from an old computer that introduces itself as Hyper Agent Gridman. Gridman instructs Yuta to fulfill a mission, but Yuta doesn't understand what this means. Simultaneously, Yuta begins to see massive, unmoving monsters in the distance. When one of these creatures suddenly attacks the city, Yuta is drawn into the computer screen and transforms into the giant hero, Gridman, to fight it.
