In the 22nd century, Japan is governed by the Sibyl System, an artificial intelligence that measures the mental state and personality of citizens to determine their "Psycho-Pass," a quantifiable assessment of their criminal potential. Individuals with high Psycho-Pass readings are apprehended, or even eliminated, by the Public Safety Bureau. This police force consists of Inspectors, who oversee operations, and Enforcers, latent criminals granted relative freedom to carry out the dangerous fieldwork. Akane Tsunemori, a new Inspector with a strong sense of justice, joins the force and is partnered with veteran Enforcer Shinya Kougami. She quickly discovers that the Sibyl System's judgments may not be as infallible as she once believed, leading her to question the true nature of justice.
