The Mizuhanome System is an advanced technology used by the specialized police squad Kura to investigate crimes. This system allows detectives to enter a criminal's unconscious mind, known as an "id well," by utilizing "cognition particles" left at a crime scene. Inside these virtual worlds, the detective, known as Sakaido, pieces together clues to identify the culprit. Sakaido is a former detective, Akihito Narihisago, who is now incarcerated but assists Kura due to his prodigious skills. He wakes up in an id well with amnesia, tasked with solving the murder of a young girl named Kaeru, while the world around him twists and turns.
