In 2046, humanity has colonized Mars, where advanced robots called "Thirds" live among humans, indistinguishable from them. Detective Ross Sylibus, a Chicago cop with a prejudice against robots after losing his partner to one, is transferred to Mars. Upon his arrival, a country singer on his flight is murdered, and it's soon revealed that she was a Third. Sylibus is partnered with Naomi Armitage, a beautiful but rebellious female cop, to investigate the murder and a series of similar killings targeting other Thirds on Mars. As they delve deeper, they uncover a conspiracy involving the Martian government.
