In a world where alchemy is a practiced science governed by the principle of equivalent exchange, brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric attempt the forbidden act of human transmutation to revive their deceased mother. Their attempt goes horribly wrong: Alphonse loses his entire body, and Edward sacrifices an arm and a leg to bind Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. Now with prosthetic limbs, Edward, known as the "Fullmetal Alchemist" due to his skill, embarks with his brother on a journey to find the fabled Philosopher's Stone, an artifact rumored to bypass the laws of alchemy and restore their original bodies.
