Haruhiro awakens in darkness, with no memory of his past, his identity, or how he arrived in this mysterious place. He is not alone; several other men and women find themselves in the same predicament, remembering only their names. They soon discover they are in a "game-like world" called Grimgar. To survive its harsh environment, they must form a party, cooperate, and learn new skills. With no other options, they accept the role of soldiers in the Reserve Army, tasked with eliminating threats to Grimgar's peace. This ragtag group, including the nervous thief Haruhiro, must navigate a world where life and death are separated by a fine line.
