Ayumi inherits an old, dilapidated Japanese house from his grandfather and decides to live there alone. The house is inconvenient and difficult to maintain. One day, a man named Mochizuki appears, claiming his apartment was destroyed in a fire and asking to stay. Despite the house being in poor condition, Mochizuki, who is skilled in housework, insists on living there. Ayumi is perplexed by Mochizuki's desire to stay in such a place, especially given the house's peculiar state.
