Kawabuchi is a town notorious for a high number of junior high school student drownings and a place where lives are valued at 100,000¥. Thirteen-year-old Ryuusei moves to Kawabuchi with his father following his mother's death. On his first day of school, after losing an arcade game, Ryuusei and two new friends are led to the riverbank by a group of bullies, including an older student named Uchida. The encounter at the riverbank sets the stage for the challenges Ryuusei will face in this unsettling town.
