Akira has saved money for three years to buy a specific computer model, the 9821. When he finds it sold out, a mysterious man in an alley offers him what appears to be the same model. Akira purchases it, only to discover upon returning home that he has not bought a computer but a Model 2198, a highly advanced gynoid named Mimi. Her sole purpose is to serve and protect her "master," a development that drastically changes Akira's life.
