After her gambling-addicted father disappears, high school student Nanami Momozono is left homeless. She encounters a mysterious man named Mikage, whom she saves from a dog. In gratitude, Mikage offers Nanami his home. Upon arriving, Nanami discovers it's a dilapidated Shinto shrine, and Mikage was actually a local deity who has now transferred his responsibilities to her. She is greeted by shrine spirits Onikiri and Kotetsu, and a powerful, arrogant fox familiar named Tomoe, who initially refuses to serve a human Land God. Despite Tomoe's resistance, Nanami, with nowhere else to go, begins to embrace her new role.
