Sanctuary

Sinopsis

After surviving the Khmer Rouge massacres in Cambodia, high school friends Akira Houjou and Chiaki Asami return to Japan with a shared vow to create a sanctuary for themselves, even if they have to build it from scratch. They choose seemingly opposite paths to achieve their goal: Akira drops out of school to join the yakuza, while Chiaki pursues a career as a politician's aide. Despite their divergent choices, both are determined to reform Japanese society and are willing to do whatever is necessary to secure their positions and fulfill their pact.
