Winter Days

Synopsis

Fuyu no Hi, also known as Winter Days, is a 2003 animated film directed by Kihachiro Kawamoto. It is an adaptation of a 17th-century renga by the Japanese poet Basho, specifically from his Seven Poetry Collection. The film is a collaborative project involving 35 animators from various countries, including Japan, China, Belgium, Czech Republic, England, Netherlands, Canada, and Russia. Each animator independently created the visuals for one of the 36 stanzas of the poem, with most sequences lasting under a minute, though one extends to nearly two minutes. The film aims to bring a visual interpretation to the traditional collaborative nature of renga poetry.
