Library War

Synopsis

In an alternate Japan, the Media Betterment Act of 1989 (the start of the Seika era) lets the Media Betterment Committee censor and seize any media it deems harmful to public morals. Libraries answer by arming themselves as the Library Defense Force, whose soldiers fight to protect freedom of expression and the books in their care. In the 31st year of the era, 2019, Iku Kasahara joins the Defense Force. As a high schooler she nearly lost a book she had been waiting for to Committee agents, until an unnamed Defense Force member intervened. Idealizing him as her prince, she resolves to become a book protector herself, though she has not told her parents she wants a frontline defense role. Her athletic ability and determination win her a place in the elite Library Task Force, where her instructor Atsushi Doujou is a constant presence.
