U

Synopsis

U is a 2006 French animated comedy-romance directed by Serge \u00c9lissalde and Gr\u00e9goire Solotareff, made in traditional hand-drawn animation with watercolour backgrounds and a handful of songs by Sanseverino. In an imaginary world, the adolescent Princess Mona lives in a stone manor on a seaside cliff beside a lush, colourful forest. Her adoptive parents, the old rat Goomi and her pot-bellied son Monseigneur, are bitter and unkind, and Mona, who longs for friends and love, grows listless. Her loneliness ends when a small white unicorn with blue eyes, named U, appears to help her. U becomes her first friend and confidante, and Mona confides in her about her body, beauty, love and the future. The film deals with adolescence, friendship and first love.
