During a summer vacation, six-year-old Hotaru Takegawa gets lost in an enchanted forest inhabited by spirits. She encounters Gin, a mysterious masked boy who helps her. Hotaru quickly learns that she cannot touch Gin, as a curse dictates he will disappear forever if a human makes physical contact with him. Despite this restriction, Hotaru and Gin form a close friendship, with Hotaru visiting him every summer near her uncle's house. Their unique bond develops as Hotaru grows older, navigating the unusual circumstances of their relationship.
