Akitsu Masanosuke, or Masa, is a skilled but timid ronin in Edo-period Japan. His meek nature often leads to his dismissal by employers, causing him to doubt his abilities as a samurai. Desperate for work, he accepts an offer from Yaichi, a charismatic and seemingly carefree man, to become his bodyguard. Masa soon discovers that Yaichi is the leader of a group called "Five Leaves," involved in illicit activities. Despite his moral reservations and the sinister nature of their work, Masa finds himself drawn into their world, intrigued by the mysterious outlaws and Yaichi's true motivations.
