In 1987, Yamaguchi, a high school student in a provincial city, forms an irreplaceable friendship with Ube over their shared passion for anime. They bond by attending late-night premieres, such as "Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise," and organizing viewing parties for films like "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." This shared interest in animation eventually leads them to consider careers as professional animators.
