In a near-future Japan, where technological advancements have led to an increase in violence and societal chaos, high school student Akira faces an uncertain future. He begins to lose hope in his dream of pursuing robotics in college. Concurrently, Tom Rock, CEO of the international robotics corporation Rock, Inc., is executing long-term plans. He has developed a fighter known as "Automaton" with the goal of bringing salvation to this increasingly unstable world. The narrative begins with the convergence of Akira's path and the emergence of the Automaton.
