Souichi Negishi is a timid young man from rural Ota Prefecture who moves to Tokyo with aspirations of becoming a pop musician or kindergarten teacher. However, he finds himself contractually obligated to be the lead singer and guitarist for the death metal band Detroit Metal City (DMC), adopting the stage persona of Johannes Krauser II. While Negishi prefers Swedish pop and a peaceful life, Krauser II is publicized as a demonic figure who advocates violence. His bandmates, drummer Terumichi Nishida (Camus) and bassist Masayuki Wada (Alexander Jagi), are also mild-mannered individuals who dislike their on-stage personas. The series follows Negishi's struggle to balance his two conflicting identities.
