Sinopsis

Set in the late 1970s in the lower-class neighborhoods of Osaka, Japan, Jarinko Chie follows the energetic elementary school student Chie Takemoto. Her mother, Yoshie, has separated from her father, Tetsu, who is a gambler and avoids work. Chie works hard to manage the family'sホルモン焼き (horumon-yaki) restaurant, often hitting Tetsu with her geta when he tries to steal money for gambling. Despite proclaiming herself "the unhappiest girl in Japan," she perseveres with the help of her cat, Kotetsu.
